The station of Terni<\/strong> was activated in 1866, at the same time as the inauguration of the Rome-Ancona railway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In 1883 it became the terminus of the railway from Pescara, which in this way connected the Abruzzi to the capital (in 1888 a direct connection was made between Pescara-Sulmona-Rome, for which the section Pescara-Sulmona was dismembered by the railway, which became Terni-L'Aquila-Sulmona).<\/span>)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

From 1915, finally, Terni was connected to Umbertide with the Central Umbrian Railway.<\/span><\/p>

The area of Terni was once inhabited by the Umbrians, who founded a town where the Rio Serra flows into the river Nera.<\/span><\/p>

Interamna Nahars<\/em> fu una citt\u00e0 romana raggiungibile dalla via Flaminia nova: la rilevanza del centro abitato \u00e8 evidenziata dagli importanti resti archeologici dell’anfiteatro e della cinta muraria; non mancano le testimonianze letterarie: tra\u00a0 <\/span>among<\/span> them, is famous the one by Marcus Tullius Cicero, which tells us of a dispute that pitted the Ternani to the Reatini* because of the uncontrollable flow of the waters of the river Velino on the basin of Terni.<\/span><\/p>

Christianity was established in Terni with the figure of the famous bishop St. Valentine, to whom a cathedral is dedicated. The basilica dates back to the seventeenth century but its origin is of early Christian foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Part of the Lombard duchy of Spoleto, in Late Middle Ages became a municipality, and then was included in the papal dominions until 1860.<\/span><\/p>

The city is famous for the metallurgical industry, which made it the target of terrible bombing during the Second World War: nevertheless, it is still embellished with many ancient buildings.<\/span><\/p>

Terni hosts a branch of the University of Perugia, for several degree courses, and the conservatory \u201cGiulio Briccialdi\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The municipality includes areas of great naturalistic interest, such as the Nera River Park, and archaeological, as the excavations of the ancient city of \"Carsulae\".<\/span><\/p>
